Features
What it does
Everything here is in the shipping app. Nothing on this page describes something that is planned.
Snap it, study it
Scan pages with edge detection and perspective correction, or import photos and PDFs. Mekuri works with handwritten notes, whiteboard photos, vertical Japanese text and math, and renders formulas cleanly. It makes multiple-choice, short-answer and written questions — some as a short scenario followed by related questions, like a real test.
See where each question came from
After you answer, Mekuri shows the page and the passage of your note the question was made from. AI can make mistakes, so you can always check the source. Report a bad question and it will not be shown again.
Marked for you, not by you
Short answers accept different spellings and valid alternative answers. Written answers are marked by AI against a rubric, with partial credit and feedback. Not sure? Choose "I don’t know" to see the answer and its source.
Today’s questions, planned back from exam day
Add an exam date and the notes it covers. Mekuri spreads the questions over the days you have left and saves the last day for review. Spaced repetition brings back missed questions sooner and well-known ones later, and on paid plans Mekuri also makes similar questions from a different angle.
Marked tests and practice exams
On paid plans, photograph a marked test: Mekuri analyzes its sections, question types and the topics where you lost points, then makes practice questions on those topics from your own notes. On Pro, take a timed practice exam scored out of 100, made from the notes in your exam range.
Build the habit
A daily streak and this week’s record. A reminder at your chosen time, only on days you have not studied yet, plus notices 7, 3 and 1 days before each exam. A home screen widget shows today’s remaining questions.
Privacy
Your notes are kept for you alone
Making questions from a page takes AI and a server, so your notes do leave the phone. They go to two places, both run by Google: Firebase, to keep them for your account, and the Gemini API, to read them. No one else sees them, and nothing goes to advertisers.
Kept with us
- An account ID, and the Apple or Google account you link (for Google, its email address)
- The notes you add: the photos and PDFs, the text read from them, and the questions made from them
- Your answers, the marking of written answers, your review schedule and study history
- Your exams, practice exams, reminder time and language settings
- Summaries of marked tests you add: sections, question types, topics and where marks were lost. The photos are deleted once the analysis is done, and the wording of the test is not stored
- Your school and year, if you choose to enter them (schools in Japan only, from the Ministry of Education’s school code list)
- Reports you send about a question, and a request to correct your birth date if you send one. When you report a question, our team reviews that question (with its answer and source excerpt) and your comment to improve how questions are made; our review screen does not show who sent it
- Your plan, and how much of its allowance you have used
Leaves the device
- Your account ID, the notes you add (photos, PDFs, the text read from them and the questions made from them), your answers, study records, exams and settings — to Google (Firebase), our cloud provider, in its Tokyo region
- The pages you add, photos of marked tests you add, and the written answers you ask to have marked — to Google (Gemini API), our AI provider
- Crash and error reports: which step failed, an error code, and technical details about the device and app version. Never the content of your notes or answers — to Google (Firebase Crashlytics)
- A check that a request comes from the genuine app — to Apple (App Attest) or Google (Play Integrity)
- Your purchase receipt, your account ID, and basic device information — to RevenueCat, our subscription provider
- The purchase itself — to Apple or Google
Questions
Before you ask
The rest of the questions, how to cancel, and how to reach a person are on the support page.
- Can I trust the questions?
- Questions and marking are made by AI and can be wrong. That is why every question shows the page and the passage of your note it came from — check it there. If a question is wrong, report it and it will not be shown again.
- What can I add?
- Photos of your notes, handouts, whiteboards and textbook pages, taken with the built-in scanner or picked from your photos, and PDFs. Handwriting, vertical Japanese text and math work. A note can hold up to 5 photos or 10 PDF pages on the free plan, and up to 20 photos or 50 PDF pages on a paid plan.
- Do I need to sign up?
- No. Mekuri starts without an account. Link Apple or Google in the Settings tab when you want to keep your notes on a new phone.
